Looking for a unique camping experience in the Lake District?
Every summer, for just six weeks during the school holidays, we open a small and peaceful campsite at Basecamp North Lakes. It sits on our stunning 155-acre site surrounded by mountains, wildlife, lakes, rescued alpacas and llamas.
This isn’t a large commercial holiday park. It’s simple camping in one of the most beautiful parts of Cumbria.
Wake up to birdsong. Watch alpacas grazing nearby. Enjoy views across the fells. Spend your evenings around the campsite watching the sun go down over the Lake District. Space is limited and pitches sell quickly each year.
Your stay includes a family Meet & Greet with the alpacas and llamas. This experience is worth £20 per person and gives you the chance to meet some of the 30+ rescued alpacas and llamas that call Alpacaly Ever After home.
You’ll hear their stories, meet some of our famous characters and get up close to animals that have been rescued from all over the UK. Many guests tell us this becomes the highlight of their holiday. Simple Camping In Stunning Surroundings

Facilities are basic and designed for people who want to enjoy the outdoors.
We provide:
• Toilets, Washing facilities, Fresh water and alpacas :)
We do not have showers on site so if you’re looking for luxury glamping, this probably isn’t for you.
If you’re looking for peaceful camping surrounded by nature, wildlife and alpacas, you’ll feel right at home.
A Place For Children To Explore. Families love the freedom the site offers.
Children can explore our small boardwalk, run around our forest school area and discover nature all around them.
We also have a community garden that guests are welcome to visit and get involved with if they wish.
There is plenty of space to relax, play and enjoy the outdoors away from busy roads and crowded campsites.

One of the things guests comment on most is the wildlife.
Our 155-acre site is home to: Ducks, Moorhens, Swallows, Songbirds, Foxes, Badgers, Otters, Amphibians and other wildlife
Whether you’re an early riser or enjoy sitting outside in the evening, there is always something to see.

Basecamp North Lakes is ideally positioned between Keswick and Penrith with easy access from the A66.
That means you’re only a short drive from some of the Lake District’s most famous attractions including:

Camping with alpacas is only available during the six-week summer holiday period each year and pitch numbers are limited.
